Senior Dietitian- Diabetes

The Mercy University Hospital Cork are in the process of developing a Multidisciplinary Foot Team to provide specialist and coordinated care for those with active diabetic foot disease.
This team will provide care across the acute hospital setting, developing pathways for management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department, providing a service to in-patients and an out-patient service. In line with the Diabetic Foot Model of Care this team will integrate with services based in the community ambulatory care hubs.
The multidisciplinary team comprises Medical, Nursing and Health and Social Care Professionals.
Responsibilities –
- As a member of a multidisciplinary team, undertake specialist nutritional assessment and identify the nutritional needs of the individual patients.
- Develop and implement structured education programmes for patients with Diabetes, with a particular focus on Type 1 Diabetes.
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, staff colleagues and dietitians in other acute settings and in Primary Care as appropriate to ensure continuity and safe care of all patients.
- Provide expert clinical leadership to the Dietetic Diabetes service.
- Supervise staff grade dietitians as assigned by the Dietetics Manager.
- Work in conjunction with other team members in coordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation.
- Develop, manage, and evaluate the Dietetics service in conjunction with the Dietetics Manager and the MDT as deemed necessary to meet objectives and service key performance indicators.
- Develop and maintain high standards of clinical practice within this area through clinical evaluation, audit opportunities and evidence-based practice including contributing to the development of guidelines and pathways for the unit.
- Contribute to a structured process for education of colleagues, students, and other disciplines in this clinical specialist area in collaboration with peers.
- Engage in research, education, and training to ensure high clinical standards.
Qualifications, experience & knowledge-
Desirable:
- Experience in dietetic management of adults living with Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3c Diabetes.
- DAFNE educated/ experience delivering structured education in Type 1 Diabetes.
- Experience/ additional training in the use of technology in the management of Diabetes-Sensor/ Pump/ Closed loop technology.
- Behaviour change training is desirable.
Eligibility Criteria - Candidates:
(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
And
(ii)
Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification dietetic experience.
And
(iii)
Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
And
(iv)
Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
