Job overview (details with more information / how to apply below)

Jobs at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust : Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (yeovilhospital.co.uk)

We have an exciting opportunity for a specialist paediatric dietitian to come and join our friendly and supportive team of paediatric dietitians. The position we are offering is permanent and will be for 37.5 hours per week but we are able to accommodate flexible working options. We are a very forward–thinking and supportive team and there is potential for the role to become an advanced practitioner role should the applicant be interested.

The caseload is varied and interesting with opportunities to work with patients from infancy through to late adolescence. You will have the opportunity to work with infants and young people with allergies, restricted eating patterns, ex premature infants and young children with feeding tubes. We have a large caseload of over 100 children and young people with Diabetes and you will have the opportunity to develop skills in working with this group of people. We also provide an inpatient service to young people with eating disorders working closely with a team of nursing and consultant staff.

You will be able to work across inpatient and outpatient settings and have the skills to cover a weekly Paediatric Outpatient clinic. Outpatient clinic work includes working with children with allergies, restricted diets, and faltering growth associated with neurological and developmental issues. You should have excellent communication skills liaising with other healthcare professionals in Tertiary centres as well as local GP and Health Visitor teams. There is scope within the role to develop work in a specific clinical area. You will have regular professional development activity to support your learning.

Main duties of the job

Provide a specialist dietetic service to paediatric wards by means of regular in-patient rounds and to ensure that patients on the children’s ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) receive the appropriate dietary intake.  This will involve the assessment of individual patients’ medical condition, nutritional status, calculation of their requirements and devising a care plan to meet the patients’ nutritional needs.  This will involve those with a complex presentation and you may need to request diagnostic tests where appropriate.
